Mr. Wm. H. Mears, an inmate of the lunatic asylum at Williamsburg from this county, died last Monday. He was a brother of our countymen, Mr. Calvin T. Mears and until his sad affliction was a useful citizen, who had the good opinion of all who knew him.

Cobb's Island, popular as a summer resort with so many of our people, it will be seen by advertisement in our issue of today is only now a few hours ride from the remotest part of our peninsula. Everyone has such a kind word for the proprietor, Mr. Spady, that praise from us of his management of affairs at the place is unnecessary.

In a match game of baseball between "baby nines" of Onancock and Drummondtown, at Onancock on last Saturday, the infants, who represented the Shire town, came out second best by a score of 3 to 12.

Captains Chandler, Turner, Sparrow, and White of the Eastern Shore, indicted for unlawful dredging in Matthews county have been acquitted. A test case was made in the case of Capt. Chandler and after a trial lasting from Tuesday to Saturday last, the verdict of not guilty was rendered.
