The sloop Hannah D., of Onancock, owned by Capt. Walter Wessels and E. T. Lewis, which went ashore on Cherrystone bar Saturday, March 4th, is still there, but in good condition and not in the least damaged. The high tides will float her off.

Capt. John R. Thomas was appointed by the Board of the Chesapeake and its Tributaries, at Richmond, last Thursday, as commander of the police oyster schooner Pocomoke, in place of Capt. John S. Gaskins, who tendered his resignation some weeks ago, to take effect December 1st.

Peas and Irish potatoes are being planted generally by our farmers this week -- and in some sections of the county sweet potato seed are being bedded. The acreage in peas will be much larger this year than usual and greater preparations are being made for "sweets" than ever before.

Weather -- Northeast storms

A wind storm, terrific in its violence, swept over Accomac county Wednesday night. The storm was the severest one that has occurred in this section for years and did much damage to property. Large trees were uprooted and in some cases snapped in two, houses partly demolished and fences thrown down. No casualties are reported.
