The second trial of Burkman, the murderer of Capt. Melson of this county, commenced at King George C. H. this week. At a former trial he was convicted and sentenced to be hanged, but that verdict was afterwards set aside and a new trial granted him on appeal to a higher court.

Capt. John Riley Marshall and Mr. George W. Glenn have returned from the city of Richmond. They were pleased with their reception by the committee of the legislature and think that means will be provided by the legislature to protect the oyster beds against violation by the dredgers.

We are authorized to request a full attendance of the Pungoteague Grange at their Hall on the Fair Grounds at their next regular meeting. The shipping interests of the farmers for the present year and other matters of importance will be brought before the Grange on the occasion.

Lumbermen -- Personal injuryForests -- Sawmills

Mr. R. D. Lankford, sawyer for the Onancock Mill Co. died last Saturday from injuries received by a handspike thrown against him by coming in contact with the circular saw, on the Thursday previous. His remains were sent to his home at Kingston, Md., last Monday for interment.

The Eastern Shore steamers have brought recently to the county a large number of colored people. The Savageville camp meeting offered the usual attraction for them to visit their old homes at this season of the year.

Watermen -- Personal injury

The body of an unknown man neatly dressed, was washed ashore at a point between Nandua and Craddock Creek, on last Saturday, and buried by some of the inhabitants of that vicinity.
