Captain Almy, of the Old Point, who left Norfolk with the steamer Cape Charles, for New York, informs us that he made the run in fifteen and a half hours.
An organization of the Y.M.C.A. has been effected at Eastville, under the supervision of Mr. H. O. Williams, State Secretary, and Messrs. H. F. Smith, W. R. Haight, and F. D. Hunt, of the Norfolk Association. Many of the leading citizens in and around Eastville subscribed with the desire to join. Henry L. Upshur was made president. Much interest was manifested and we wish them success.
Within the past few weeks the following contributions have been sent to Miss M. Simmie Read through her request for the Baptist Church at Cape Charles: Mr. L. P. Roberts, of Norfolk, $20; Mr. T. J. Nottingham, of Norfolk, $25; Mrs. Betsy Taylor, of Eastville, $10; and Mr. C. H. Council, of Pocomoke City, $5. Besides the above, this ambitions Baptist lady has received many donations of smaller amounts, which taken all together, makes quite a little sum toward the completion of the church.
