Cobb's Hotel
Tourists and sportsmen -- Other recreation - Resorts
Cobb's Island has long been a favorite resort for health and pleasure seekers. Rising from the ocean near the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and within easy access of the twin cities, it is annually visited by large numbers of our citizens. The surf bathing is superb, the hunting and fishing rarely excelled, and the accommodations of the hotel are ample and convenient. Many improvements have been made on the premises since last season, and the proprietors hope, with their increased facilities, to render all their guests comfortable.
WELLINGTON FOR SALE.
Farmers -- Farm size and structureFarmers -- Farm subdivisionInfrastructure -- Commercial - Real estate
THIS Beautiful Estate will be offered for sale to the highest bidder, at public auction, in front of the Taylor House, in Eastville, Northampton county, Va., on MONDAY, August 15th, 1876, at 2 P. M., that being County court day. Wellington is one of the most desirable of residences, and one of the most productive and valuable farms in Eastern Virginia. It is situated on Nasswaddox Creek, about 8 miles from Chesapeake Bay, 2 miles from the village of Franktown and 14 miles from Eastville. It contains by actual survey 409 1-83 acres, but it will be sold in gross and net by the acre. It is bounded on north, south and west by Nasswaddox Creek, navigable to and beyond this farm for steamers and sail vessels trading to Baltimore, Norfolk &c., beautiful in scenery, and abounding in scale fish, terrapins, oysters, clams, crabs and wild fowls. The old family residence, on the bank of the creek, commands a fine view of its waters and of the Chesapeake in the distance. The dwelling house, of the old fashioned story and a half, is of brick, with porticos in front and rear, with two framed additions, giving in all 4 rooms with fireplaces, and 2 passages or entrance halls below, and four rooms above stairs, as also convenient and sufficient store rooms and closets. There are ample kitchens and other offices, large stables, large and safe ice-house, and all the outbuildings necessary for a large family and extensive farming. The whole tract will be sold in three divisions :
First. The centre portion on which are located the family residence and other buildings above mentioned, containing 125 83-109 acres, of which 85 83-100 acres are arable.
Second. The southern portion, bounded on three sides by the creek, having one of the prettiest views to be found on tidewater, containing 100 17-100 acres, of which 70 17-100 are arable and 30 acres in wood. On this, handsomely located, are a small frame dwelling and out house, sufficient for a small family, now the residence of Dr. Charles Smith.
Third. The northern portion fronting on the creek, containing 183 33-100 acres, of which about 150 are arable and the residue in woods. This has no houses upon it except a small tenement of little value.
The division first above set forth, having on it the old family residence, will be first offered for sale.
These sales will be made under a decree of the Circuit Court for the county of Northampton, pronounced at the June term, 1876, in the suit of Thomas B. Fisher, &c., against Hamilton S. Neale and Miers W. Fisher, trustees, &c., in chancery. Ample and convenient rights of way are secured by the decree to each of the three farms. A plat of the surveys recently made by Geo. H. Bagwell, Esq., showing the divisions and locations, and roads and a copy of the decree, will be shown on application to me.
TERMS -- Five hundred dollars ($500.00) to be paid in cash on the day of sale, to be apportioned among the several purchasers, if more than one, and as much more as the purchaser may desire; and the residue of the purchase money due by each purchaser to be divided in three (3) equal installments, payable annually from the day of sale, with interest from the first day of January, 1877, for which the purchasers are to give their bonds respectively, with good personal security, and the title to be retained until the whole purchase money be paid. The premises are to be at the risk of the purchaser from the time they are bid off to him, and he is to bear the expense of all necessary deeds, and he is to be let into possession on the 1st day of January, 1877, upon his complying with the terms of sale. Upon the payment of the whole of the purchase-money by any purchaser, the trustee will execute to him a deed in fee simple, free from all
