Marriage Oak

Legend: On Maryland side of road forming Va.-Md. boundary line -- where many of the Va. run-away marriages are performed with the boundary stone in the distance. A Maryland preacher, who lives close by, is found to be quite convenient to Virginia couples who want to evade the marriage license law of the latter state. 1895.
