July, 1911, will long be remembered as the very dryest and hottest of record. The little rains that fell disappeared with hardly a trace of benefit behind. Gardens have been ruined and the corn crop greatly injured. The highest temperature for the month was 101 on the 11th, lowest 59 on the 26th and 27th. The mean for the month was 80.24, about 6 degrees above July of last year. The rainfall for the month amounted to 1.77 inches. The deficiency since May 8th amounting to about 8 inches so far. There have been sporadic rains in the lower part of this county and in Accomack.
