Eastville, Va., May 21st. -- The steam saw and grist mill of N. L. Holland and Son, of this place, caught fire last night and was saved from destruction by considerable effort, the damage not being material, as a result.

Work on the new county jail here is progressing rapidly. The brick work is now going up.

The weather has turned suddenly very cold for the season. Truckers are busy cultivating their round potatoes. A number have been very successful on asparagus. Mr. W. T. Garrett, of Birdsnest, shipped a very fine grade and got as high as $8 a dozen for some of it. Cabbage are also going and good prices have been obtained. Mr. W. J. Leatherbury, of this vicinity, has a very fine crop. A number of the truckers of this county have gone into growing cabbage.
