Eastville.

Mr. Neeling, who was engaged in the railroad yards of the N. Y. P. &N. R. R. in Cape Charles, was yesterday run over by the yard engine and crushed lifeless. He was from Elizabeth City county and had been here only a few months. He was about 30 years of age, and unmarried.

The weather here today is very hot, consequently oppressive. Those who still have a part of their potatoes un-dug are getting fair prices where they are in good condition.

The Board of Supervisors at the meeting yesterday accepted the new jail which has just been completed at the cost to the county of $4,700. The first prisoner was entered yesterday. It was not too soon in completion. Three wary individuals of color, mindful of the fact that in a few days stronger walls would be about them, last Friday night made good their escape from the old one, taking unceremonious leave. They were in for petty offenses.
