Eastville, Va., July 8. -- Yesterday was, by odds, the hottest day of the year, so far the thermometer registered 85 in the shade here in town. Out near the water front it was not quite so high. The great humidity made the heat felt as much as if it had been higher. Today about equals yesterday in temperature.

The July term of the Circuit Court commenced here this morning with Judge John W. G. Blackstone presiding. The term will be taken up mostly with the criminal cases of which there are several of importance. The Belote case was, however continued.

The new county jail here is now nearly complete. It is modern fire-proof building with concrete foundation and floor and reinforced concrete ceiling. There are four steel cells and two rooms for insane or female prisoners. The building has been erected at a cost to the county of $4,700 for which county five per cent. bonds have been issued. The work has been in charge of Mr. William Lankford, of Maryland.
