Transportation -- Railroad - ConstructionMoral -- Other violent crime

Eastville

The commissioners appointed to assess the value of the lands to be taken for the new line of the railroad to Cape Charles are at work again today and will try to complete their work. The work of construction will begin very soon, already the way has been cleared of the timber.

In a row in Cape Charles city William Winder shot another negro named Robert Marshall, inflicting a serious wound in the arm. Winder was brought here on yesterday by Sergeant Taylor and made application for bail and will be sent on to the grand jury.

The weather this week has greatly hindered the round potato planting. Only a few have succeeded in getting any work of this kind done. Last night was very cold and disagreeable for the season. With a few days of drying weather the land will do to plant.
