Eastville, Va., May 10. -- The Eastville Reading Circle met yesterday at the home of Mrs. Howard Hall. The usual number of members were present and Thomas B. Aldrich was the author discussed. Miss Isabelle Wagner read an interesting paper on the subject.

The cool weather has kept back the potato bugs, so that the crop is looking well. A few people are shipping asparagus, and the prices obtained are excellent. Mr. Jim Fisher shipped his first cabbage today. The price is good.

Mr. L. E. Mumford, Mr. R. L. Ailworth and several other directors of the Mumford Banking Company are spending the week on the Western Shore, visiting the various institutions that company has established there.

Miss Nellie W. Nottingham, of this place, who has been sick for some weeks, is now improving. She had to give up her position in the Onancock High school on account of her health.

Mr. T. J. Arrington has moved with his family into the Baptist parsonage.

The body of Custis Read, a young negro who was drowned January 8th, was found yesterday by Captain Lloyd Moore, on the Seaford marsh. The body was identified by friends.

The Farmers' and Merchants' Bank of Cape Charles opened its doors for business a few days ago. It has a strong board of directors and is making a lively bid for business. The success of the L. E. Mumford Banking Company has created great interest on the part of the business men of this section and a number of new institutions have been the result. The officers of the new bank are W. B. Wilson, president; R. W. Nottingham, first vice-president; A. J. Downes, second vice-president, and Upshur Wilson, cashier.

The directors of the Times Publishing Company, of Cape Charles, recently declared a dividend of 10 per cent on the capital stock.

Large quantities of fish are being caught in the pounds on the bayside. Mr. C. F. Wilkins, of this place, has shipped large quantities. A report from Onancock says that one boat brought into that place 3000 nice rock fish, for shipment North. They command a good price.

In the Circuit Court of Accomack an order has been issued establishing a voting precinct from Hall's Store to Sanford.
