Architecture -- Jails

Eastville, Va., February 18. -- Two negroes, William Henry Williams and James Ward, broke out of the jail here last night and made good their escape. They are both bad characters and were sent up here from Cape Charles city for minor offenses. The former had been in jail before and knew the ground. This make five persons who have broken out of the old building in the past three months. The structure is very old.

Two contractors, Mr. Shank, of Philadelphia, and Mr. Smith, of Washington, have recently visited town looking into the matter of building a new jail or repairing this one. It is likely that some steps will be taken at an early day looking to some improvements.
