Onancock, Va., August 23.

Pleasant weather, good roads, and an attractive race-card brought together to-day the largest crowd ever upon the Peninsular fair-grounds at Tasley. Excursion trains from North and South came in loaded with people. At some stations north of Tasley so many were left that the train had to return in order to bring them. The races were interesting, and the chief events well contested.

In the 3-year-old class Gold Burr was the favorite and winner. In the 2:24 class the interest was especially great. Clarence B. and Sport being the stars.

To-morrow, if the weather continues fine, will be the biggest day of the fair. To-day there were 4,000 people present and to-morrow 5,000 are expected. The race in the 2:24 class was unfinished, and will be decided to-morrow. Summaries:

2:32 class -- purse $300, six entries, four started -- Susie J., James Brothers, 3, 3, 2; Basil, L. F. Bradford, 2, 2, 3; White Tip, Kellam and Parks, 1, 1, 1; Sam Hatch, Elkington Stock Farm, 4, 4, 4. Time, 2:32, 2:32 1/2, and 2:30.

3-year-olds -- purse $200 -- St. Paul, Robert James, 3, 4, 3; Gold Burr, W. C. West, 1, 1, 1; Lula S., Floyd Brothers, 4, 3, 4; Loyd E., E. F. Nottingham, 2, 2, 2. Time, 2:38 1/2, 2:40, and 2:38.

2:24 class -- purse $300 -- Annie Russell, P. S. Sheridan, 5, 5, 5; J. R., C. A. Kellam, 4, 4, 3; Clarence E., Harry Rites, 3, 2, 2; Sport, Kellam and Parks, 2, 1, 1; Eloray, I. C. Nelson, 1, 3, 4. Time, 2:21 3/4, 2:22 1/4, and 2:21 1/2.
