Moral -- Other violent crime

Onancock.

W. D. Bird, the young man captured in Suffolk Tuesday by Detective James, of Norfolk, upon a warrant sworn out by the father and brother of a pretty Newark, N. J., young girl, whom Bird is said to have raped, and who escaped from the north-bound Washington express over the N. Y. P. & N. R.R., at Exmore station, this county, from the custody of the young girl's relatives, has been captured.

Bird after escaping from the car took to the woods, from whence he procured a team and was driven to Birdsnest station, Northampton county, where his capture was effected.

He is said to have admitted his guilt to a number of persons there, telling them, however, not to say anything unless he was captured, when they could talk all they "d--n pleased." Bird said he forcibly threw the lady down, and clutching her by the throat to prevent an outcry, accomplished his purpose.
