Chincoteague Island, August 18, 1888.

The meeting of the Accomack Baptist Association and the pony-penning have brought more visitors to Chincoteague than were ever here at any time before. Among the visitors here from Richmond were Hon. H. K. Ellyson, Hon. J. Taylor Ellyson, Mr. A. J. Ford, proprietor of Ford's Hotel, Mr. W. L. Cowardin, Colonel Howard Swineford, Rev. Dr. J. William Jones, Professor H. H. Harris, of Richmond College, Miss Mary Ellyson, Master H. K. Ellyson, Jr., Mr. R. R. Nuckolls and wife, T. H. Ellett, and A. L. Phillips.

The association was called to order last Thursday by the retiring moderator, John J. Gunter, Esq., who declined re-election. Hon. Benjamin T. Gunter, judge of this judicial circuit, was elected moderator, and Rev. George C. Bundick was elected secretary. Rev. J. S. Wharton, of Leemont, preached the introductory sermon. The reports from all the churches of the association showed a considerable increase in church membership and collections during the past year. Dr. Harris delivered a telling and able address last night on foreign missions, after which Rev. H. Marvin Wharton, of Baltimore, delivered his famous lecture on his rambles in Europe. Mr. Wharton also delivered a fine sermon yesterday morning. To-day the association will finish its work and adjourn to meet at Atlantic church next August. The meetings of the association have been held under an immense tent, consisting of frame-work covered with canvas sails. Large numbers have attended every day, and in spite of the intensely hot weather, the breezes that blow from the sea have made it delightful to sit under the canvas and enjoy the interesting sessions of the association.
