Professionals -- Merchants

Onancock, Va., October 22.

E. W. Barnes, a merchant residing near Bloxom's Station, in Accomack county, has made an assignment, with his father and A. J. Mason, his former partner, as preferred creditors. The firm was formerly Mason & Barnes, but Mason withdrew several months ago. Barnes's liabilities are placed at about $6,000; assets unknown. He had just laid in his fall stock, many goods having been received after he had made the assignment. Baltimore and Philadelphia drummers have been looking for Barnes for several days past, but he cannot be found. It is supposed he has gone to Norfolk or North Carolina. His store is still open.
