SCARCITY OF OYSTERS.

Sea -- Shellfish - Oystering : BaysideSea -- Shellfish - Oystering : PackingSea -- Shellfish - Oystering : Markets

The receipts of oysters from Chesapeake Bay for the last fortnight have been very small. Prices in Washington and Baltimore are higher than they were in September. The processes of canning and refrigeration have greatly reduced the supply for shipment in the shell. Eastern oysters are sent in great quantities across the continent and sell readily, notwithstanding the loss of flavor occasioned by transplanting. The fishery will be diligently operated for the Maryland Controller has already issued more than six hundred licenses for dredging.
