Onancock.

William Kennard Nottingham Esq., has retired from the editorship of the Eastern Shore Herald, a weekly paper published at Eastville, Northampton county. His successor has not yet been named.

Mr. J. W. Fitchett, of Accomac Courthouse, narrowly escaped being shot a few nights ago, while on the New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk express train, north bound, some one firing a pistol through the car window, near Nassawadox station, Northampton county, the ball going through the brim of his hat.

In Messongo Neck, recently, a largely attended body of men organized and passed resolutions in substance condemning certain portions of Capt. O. A. Browne's letter in the Richmond Dispatch, of December 21st, declaring oyster rocks in a flourishing condition, and pronouncing them better than in the past twenty years; asserting that prosperity reigns everywhere the oyster grows; advising the passage of a "cull law," which will forbid the catching of oysters from rocks, less than 2 and a half inches; expressing the belief that oysters will never be scarce if Pocomoke Sound is closed to dredgers; demanding better protection, and expressing willingness to pay for it.
