MRS. TAYLOR GUILTY.

Moral -- Murder

The Jury Convicted Her of Murder in the Second Degree.

[Special Dispatch to The Virginian.]

ACCOMAC COURTHOUSE, Va., March 29. -- Today at 1 o'clock the jury in the case of Mrs. Virginia Taylor rendered a verdict convicting Mrs. Taylor of murder in the second degree and assigned her punishment to be five years in the penitentiary.

Mrs. Taylor, who has excited much comment concerning her remarkable coolness throughout the trial, received the verdict with stolid indifference. She evinced not a tremor nor a sign of emotion. The jury stood until late this morning 11 to 1 for conviction of murder in the second degree. No one upon the jury was in favor of hanging. Immediately after the verdict was rendered T. W. Russell, of counsel for the accused, asked for an arrest of judgment, and Monday next argument for a new trial will be commenced by the defense. There was a very small crowd in attendance this morning.

An Unknown Man Found Dead.

Moral -- Other

[Special Dispatch to the Virginian.]

ONANCOCK, Va., (via Tasley, Va.,) March 29. -- The body of a man in a much decomposed and horribly mutilated condition was found yesterday in a forest near Middlesex, this county. The body was in the last stages of decomposition, and the eyes had been pecked out. The dead man is supposed to be Frank Powell, the young man who was dismissed from Turlington Bros., some time ago on account of dishonesty. Powell was greatly depressed at the discovery of his dishonesty and at the refusal of the young lady to whom he was engaged to marry him. Wandering about he was seen in the neighborhood of Middlesex several days ago in a beastly stage of intoxication, and has not since been heard from. A post-mortem examination over the body will be held tomorrow.
