Body of Captain E. J. Lawson Washed Ashore.

Not a Vestige of the Ill-Fated Schooner Northampton to be Seen.

The body of Elijah J. Lawson, captain of the ill-fated schooner Northampton, wrecked on Sunday morning last, was washed ashore near station No. 4 yesterday morning and recovered by two of the crew at the station.

Isaac Lawson, the father of the drowned man, with his son, was at Virginia Beach yesterday morning, and states that on Friday last the Northampton, of which his son Elijah was captain and half owner, was anchored in Cherrystone Creek. The brother of the drowned man paid him over $300 during the gale of Saturday night. The vessel was blown out to sea and anchored off Cape Charles, where the mainmast was cut away in order to hold on, but despite every precaution the cable parted and she went before the storm.

John Moody, the colored man saved, says "the captain sewed all his money up and told the crew if he did not get saved and he was drowned, that to take the money found on him to his family at Crisfield."

The body of Captain Lawson will arrive this morning from Virginia Beach in charge of his nephew, when it will be taken in charge by Hall & Co., undertakers, who will take it to the Eastern Shore for interment. There is not a vestige of the vessel left on the beach. Her crew consisted of Captain Elijah J. Lawson, John Parks, mate, John Moody and Wm. Brown, colored, seamen.
