Onancock, Va., May 10. -- The case of Cornelius Annis, who was assassinated several months ago by an unknown person, has again been brought before the public.

A detective agency wrote to the relatives of the deceased, sometime ago, that if a certain sum was guaranteed them they would guarantee to find Annis' murderer in a short time, but they not being able to raise the necessary money had to refuse the offer. It is reported, however, that an effort is being made to raise the amount necessary and have the criminal hunted down.

It will be remembered that Annis was shot down in the most cowardly manner while crossing a room, in his mistress' house. No clue to the murderer has ever been found. The entire case has been shrouded in mystery, and apparently no effort has been made to clear it up by the authorities.

The scheme to colonize a number of Scotch families in Accomac, which was headed by Congressman Bayly Browne and C. Reid Hope, seems to have fallen through, as nothing further has been heard from it since the announcement appeared in THE VIRGINIAN.

The initial number of the Tidewater News, a seven-column, four-page weekly, started here under the management of Thomas W. Bull and H. L. Crockett will appear in about one week. The paper is on a sound financial basis. It will be independent in politics.
