ONANCOCK, Va., June 17. -- G. Jefferson Adair, who was convicted in Northampton County Court last May of having murdered Peter B. Smith and sentenced to eighteen years in the penitentiary, has been assigned to duty in that institution as bookkeeper in the shoe department.

The report of the oyster inspectors for the three months ending May 31st is as follows: John R. Johnson, Inspector for the Fifth District, collected $160.27; due the State, $144.25. John C. Justice, for the Ninth District, collected $74.30; due the State, $66.87.

John W. Hart was convicted in Accomac County Court of selling liquor without a license and judgment entered against him for $100.

All the cases which were to have been tried against several prominent hotel and barroom keepers were nolle prosequied.

The cases against the sloops Cape Charles, Bride and Carrie P. Grimboll were dismissed.
