Moral -- Property crime

Douglas Manual, colored, charged with house breaking and stealing $60 the property of Stephen Taylor, was sent to jail by Justice L. F. J. Wilson last Monday, to await the action of the grand jury at its next regular term.

Tourists and sportsmen -- Other recreation - Boat racing

A race has been made between the skiff "Geo. T. Garrison," owned by Thos. H. Melson, and "John W. Daniel," owned by Wm. T. James, to come off at Powelton next Wednesday, 2 p. m., for a purse of $75. The race will be against wind and tide, the distance 2 miles -- the money is up and the owners of both boats eager for the contest.

Belle Haven.

Our building boom continues. Four houses at this time are being erected, giving employment to 18 workmen. The erection of the Town Hall will begin shortly, and is to be a very handsome and imposing edifice.

The Belle Haven Sporting Club have charted a steamer and will visit Hog and Cobb's Island next week.

Capt. John W. Bunting was the purchaser of a house and lot sold at public auction last week, belonging to estate of John Caulk, deceased, at the price of $576.

Leemont.

Messrs. Hopkins Bros. & Co., Hunting Creek, have thorough repaired the steamboat wharf.

The crabmen of Hunting Creek are having quite a harvest, and report crabs plentiful.

Mr. Alfred Rew is building a fine dwelling at Woodberry.

Miss Jennie Copes has sold her farm near Leemont to Mr. Alfred Northam for $1,700.

Mrs. Riley Lewis has contracted for a dwelling to be built near Hunting Creek. Mr. A. Frank Barnes will be the builder.

Your challenge received, and in reply, will say that the "John W. Edmonds" will sail you in Chincoteague waters to the windward and stop, no favors asked -- or will go and come, according to rules of racing for $100 or more. Time of sailing to be appointed previous to that of racing.
