A large wharf will be built at Wishart's Point, by the Old Dominion Steamship Company, at an early day -- the old one being too small for the increasing trade at that place.

The Eastern Shore Steamboat Co. has been awarded the contract to carry the mail to Boggsville, at which point a post office has been recently established.

The citizens of Modestown, and vicinity, have arranged for the establishment of a graded school at that place next fall. A building suitable for that purpose will be erected during the Summer.

The following is an extract from the report of the County Superintendent for the month ending March 31st.: No. of schools in operation, 69; No. pupils enrolled, 3,490; No. daily average attendance, 2,488.13; daily average attendance per teacher, 36; No. warrants issued to teachers, 75; value of warrants, $2,351.

A post office is to be established here, with J. E. West as Post Master. The Government is now open for bids to carry the mail from Pungoteague to this point.

Mr. E. T. Parks will have a handsome dwelling built on the new street during the Summer.

Mr. Louis F. Hindman has purchased a house and lot of Mr. E. T. Parks, and proposes to improve it by erecting a hotel building thereon immediately.

Metompkin.

The meat house of Major George P. Barnes was raided on last Thursday night and nine of the best pieces of his meat were stolen. Two locks were broken by the thieves before reaching it. The most diligent search fails to give any clue as to perpetrators of the theft.

Onancock.

Capt. Thos. Johnson will soon open a new street through his premises lying on Main street and the road leading to Slutkill neck and divide it in lots for building purposes to suit purchasers.

The establishment of a bank here is favored by some of our enterprising citizens.

Messrs. Geo. W. Kelley and Geo. P. Hargis, of our county, and Fred Waddy, of Northampton, have recently purchased lots in our town, with the view to the erection of handsome residences to be occupied by them another year.

Pungoteague.

The building of a town hall here is being agitated by some of our enterprising citizens.

The order of Heptasophs is prosperous in this locality. Their Lodge in our town has 75 members.

The Methodists of this circuit have bought an acre of land of Mr. McConnell at the price of $200, with a view to the erection of a handsome church edifice thereon during the Summer.
