Infrastructure -- Public : Churches

Our Methodist friends contemplate building a new church near Moore's store at an early date. At the conclusion of a series of meetings held by the presiding elder, the Rev. Geo. H. Ray, and the Rev. Mr. Betty, pastor of Guilford Circuit, the matter was submitted to the congregation, and in a few minutes $300 was subscribed for the purpose set forth above. Their church will be erected on land donated by a Mr. Baker.

Onancock, August 5th.

Mr. Editor: Onancock is a thriving and improving town. Business seemed to be brisk, and the town presented signs of life and activity. I visited the barrel factory of Miles & Co., and was struck with the activity and system which were exhibited in the manufactory of barrels. Every man had his particular work to do, and consequently there was no friction. I learned a lesson -- it was this; System ought to be adhered to in every enterprise of life. The canning factory of Messrs. Northam & Joynes seemed to be doing its work with briskness and success. May the future career of Onancock be one of usefulness and prosperity.
