African-Americans -- Racial violence

One day last week a colored woman, wife of one John Dickerson, near Guilford, attacked a young Miss Parker, white, and beat her severely. On Monday, two or three young men, "Charlestown Tigers," went to Dickerson's house and retaliated on the woman severely. One of them kept the husband at bay in the corner of the room, at the muzzle of a double-barreled shotgun while another drew a screaming black gum and thrashed the offending wife soundly. It is said that Dickerson intends to look aftger the law in the case.

Revolting Affair.

African-Americans -- Race relations

John Floyd, aged about 40, a white man and a painter by trade, residing in the upper part of this County, a few days since deserted his wife and two children and eloped with a young mulatto woman. aged 18 years. No doubt a brief experience will satisfy him that eloping with a colored maid is not the most manly pass-time for a white man with a respectable wife and children.
