Transportation -- Water - Steamboats

The Eastern Shore Steam Navigation and Transportation Company has applied to Judge Hanckel, of Norfolk, for a charter. The purpose of the company is to build a steamer which can be used either as a light or deep sea boat for entering the tributaries of the Chesapeake bay on the Eastern Shore and elsewhere, and for carrying truck and farm products to shipping points. The capital stock is from $20,000 to $50,000.

Chincoteague.

Wild fowl abundant in our waters at present and sportsmen, many of whom are now at the Atlantic, have fine sporting.

The Winter Quarter lightship, off Assateague, which went adrift on the night of the 15th, has been found and towed into harbor.

Schooner Moffitt, Capt. William Harrison, was caught in the gale on the 15th, and blown off to the Gulf stream. She has since arrived at Norfolk without material injury and cargo disposed of.

Our merchants continue to complain of dull times and scarcity of money.

The recent revival meeting here -- the largest in the history of the town -- will result in the building of two new churches in the town soon.

Leemont.

The gasoline steamer missed a trip last week on account of being on the railway to be sheathed with metal to protect her from ice. She is to be further improved by enlarging her wheels and by a new engine.

At the sale of the real estate of the late George W. Barnes last week, Mr. Fletcher J. Barnes was the purchaser of the home place, and of one of the divisions of the Ewell land, Samuel R. Justis of another part of said tract and Augustus Shrieves of the woodland near Leemont.

Improvements are being made at the station this week by Section Boss Pickle.

The poultry yard of Mr. W. T. Wimbrough was raided a few nights ago and a coop of his chickens taken off.

Capt. E. B. Waples has discontinued work at his saw mill until another year. The barrel factory of Mr. S. H. East also has been closed until after Xmas.

Two more storehouses, it is stated, are to be built in our town in the near future.

Fast driving in our town on Sunday has assumed such proportions, that incorporation is talked of as a protection against the evil. Two accidents due to it here last Sunday -- young lady and friend thrown from buggy in one case by capsizing of same, and wheel broken and horse badly cut in another.
