ACCOMAC COUNTY COURT.

November Term, 1886

A receipt from Martha G. Watson to John L. Gillespie, trustee, was ordered to be recorded.

Letters of administration were granted to Hiram P. Poulson, on estate of Triphenia Poulson; Edward T. Downing, on estate of Thomas Cropper; and Stanley J. Lewis, on estate of Levin D. Lewis.

Last will of Ann Elizabeth Ewell, deceased, was probated, and Burwell B. Ewell, one of the executors, qualified.

Audits of the estates of Thomas J. Dickerson, George Bloxom of L., and Nathaniel S. Wescott were confirmed and ordered to be recorded.

Samuel A. Godwin was appointed and qualified as guardian of John S. Ball, orphan of Daniel M. Ball, deceased.

Accounts of L. J. Gunter, constable, and Wm. H. B. Custis, clerk vs. Commonwealth, were allowed and certified to auditor of public accounts

Francis M. Sturgis, J.P. of Lee district, resigned his office, to take effect December 15th, 1886.

Authority to celebrate the rites of matrimony was granted to Rev. John S. Wharton of Leemont, and Rev. Levi Dunton of Pungoteague.

Authority to repair Trader's bridge near Pungoteague, was granted to Geo. W. Walker, surveyor of road.

Rearrangement of road precinct No. 28 of Lee district was confirmed, and surveyors appointed for the new precincts as follows: James C. Harrison, of No. 28, and Henry Rayfield of No. 36.

Orders on county treasurer in road and bridge matters were entered as follows: For Levi R. Boggs, $1; Samuel B. Slocomb, $65.11; James H. Tindal, $21.36; Thorogood Fisher, $2; James A. Winder, $9; John Summers, $5; Copes & Hall, $7.20; Daniel B. Marshall, 40 cents; Stanley J. Lewis & Bros., $5.60; Augustus W. Johnson, (2 accounts) 20 cents and $5; William H. Drummond and Tully W. Scott, $124.50; Chas. P. Finney, $5; Wm. T. Lewis, $3; Wm. Riley, $1; A. J. Lilliston, $7.71; Wm. R. Parramore's executors $5.92.

The following overseers of road were appointed: Geo. T. Summers, vice Thorogood Fisher; Wm. P. Lewis, vice Wm. H. Lewis, John R. Coard of J., vice Maurice L. Lewis: J. E. Hickman, vice Robert W. Walker: K. J. C. Horsey of precinct No. 31 of Atlantic district (new precinct.).

Order entered transferring Jno. W. Bowdoin from road duty on precinct No. 20 of Metompkin district to precinct No. 18 of said district.

Upon petition of Henry R. Boggs and others to build bridge over Matchotank creek. Report of Chas. P. Finney, commissioner, of the completion of the bridge, filed and confirmed.

Chas. P. Finney, inspector of oysters for 8th district, returned his report for quarter ending, November 30th, 1886 -- from which it appears that he had collected for fees, fines and taxes, $368.25 and the amount due from him to the Commonwealth was $331.48.

Nancy J. Lewis vs. John Lewis (on attachment for rent). Judgment for plaintiff and order for sale of attached effects.

Julia Chandler vs. John H. Melson (on attachment for rent). Judgment for plaintiff and order for sale of attached effects.

Commonwealth vs. Wm. J. Ayres (on rule). Defendant showed sufficient excuse for his absence and rule discharged.

Commonwealth vs. Geo B. Fosque and George T. Scarburgh (on rule). Excuse of defendants deemed insufficient and judgment entered against each for $2.50 and costs.

Commonwealth vs. John J. Wise (on an indictment for practising without a license). Tender of coupons by defendant held by the Court to be a valid payment of his license tax and nolle prosequi entered.

Commonwealth vs. Wm. Phillips, (indictment for selling intoxicating liquors). Alias summons to answer, awarded against the defendant and cause continued until next term.

Commonwealth vs. Walter D. Lewis, (on an indictment for keeping a livery stable without license). Plea of not guilty and jury failing to agree cause continued until next term.

The Upshur Guano Co. vs. Parker Wills (on rule). The excuse of defendant deemed sufficient and rule discharged.

Benjamin T. Mason was appointed and qualified as guardian of Ernest Koenig, orphan of George Koenig, deceased.

Order entered appointing L. Floyd Nock, trustee, in place of Wm. Finney, deceased, in deed from Geo. C. Mapp and wife for benefit of Powell Bros.

Commonwealth vs. Edward Justis, Wm. P. Winder and Duffield Savage (on indictments for selling intoxicating liquors). Plea of not guilty -- a jury empannelled in each case, and failing to agree, cases were continued until next term.

Belle S. Mears et al., vs. Upshur Guano Co., (petition of interpleader). Petition dismissed and judgment for defendant & cost.

Rule awarded against Stanley J. Lewis for failing to appear on 1st day as witness in case of Commonwealth vs. Duffield Savage and the defendant afterwards appearing and showing sufficient reason for his absence; rule was discharged.

Upon petition of H. C. Walker, surveyor of road, to improve his road precinct. Petition filed and order appointing commissioners to view and report necessity &c.

Upon petition of B. W. Mears and others for public road. Appropriation of $300 asked by Levin J. Hyslop, surveyor, to build road, granted and said surveyor directed to proceed with building and opening of road.

Upon petition of E. W. Barnes and others for public road and landing -- cause continued by consent of parties until 3rd day of next term.

Ex Parte. John A. Bundick's administrator, c. t. a. Report of Gunter & Blackstone filed and order confirming.

Ex Parte. Petition of Alfred M. Mason and others, guardian, filed, order confirming report and removing cause from docket.

Upon petition of Thos. H. B. Corbin, surveyor of road, to cut a ditch and rearrange his road precinct. Ditching referred to Board of Supervisors for approval or rejection; and re-arrangement of precinct confirmed as reported by the commissioners.
