Proceedings, December Term, 1896.

Last will of Thomas Taylor of Z. was proved and ordered to be recorded.

Estate of Catharine Hope, deceased, was committed to John H. Wise, sheriff, for administration.

James E. Anderton qualified as administrator of Peleg Hussey, deceased; John E. Nock, as administrator c.t.a. of J. W. A. Elliott, deceased; Joshua R. Duer, as administrator of William T, Rayfield, deceased; Leonard C. and Harry E. Mears, administrators of Benjamin W. Mears deceased; Henry L. Crockett as administrator of Joseph A. Baker, deceased; Thomas W. Blackstone, as administrator, d.b.n.c.t.a. of Elizabeth F. Seymour, deceased.

Henry L. Crockett, qualified as guardian of Harry V., Joseph A. and L. Marion Baker, orphans of Jos. A. Baker, deceased; Otho L. Parker as guardian of Sarah T. and Wm. J. Parker, orphans of James H. Parker, deceased; and Thos. W. Blackstone as guardian of Robert S. Scarburgh, infant child of Geo. T. Scarburgh.

Following accounts against Commonwealth in criminal and lunacy cases were allowed by the court: To T. B. Gillespie, J.P., $3; Thomas G, Clayton, J.P., $1; John D. Watts, J.P., $4 and $1; Joseph E. Brodwater, M.D., $2.50; W. M. Taylor, J.P., $8.50; Melson & Daugherty, $6.60; sheriff, $14.20; sheriff and jailer for board of lunatics, $44; for board of prisoners, $48.75.

Howard R. Smith and George W. Coard were appointed and qualified as a special police force in this county.

Dr. Joseph E. Brodwater qualified as notary public for county of Accomac.

Ernest L. Peerman and Geo. E. B. Smith, of the M. E. Church, South, were granted authority to celebrate the rites of matrimony.

Upon petition of Levin R. Lewis and others for a public road. Petition filed and order entered appointing viewers.

The Commonwealth vs. Joseph S. Bunting (on appeal), charged with carrying a pistol concealed from common observation. Defendant tried, found not guilty and the judgment of the J.P. convicting the defendant was set aside and defendant discharged.

Order entered substituting Jas. H. Fletcher Jr. as trustee in deed from Charles D. Dambrick and others to Edward H. Conquest Sr. trustee.

Ex parte: Petition of Fred D. Jones' widow and minor children by next friend for assignment of homestead in real estate of said Fred D. Jones, deceased. Petition filed and order entered appointing commissioners to make assignment.

The criminal docket, and the motion, petition and appeal docket were called and 43 old cases were stricken from the criminal docket and 42 from appeal docket. These cases were known as sleepers, many having been pending for ten years without any proceedings in them.

Following fiduciary accounts confirmed and ordered to be recorded: Orphan accounts of Harry A. Hopkins, James Fox and Ona F. Selby; audit of estate of Isaac Baker, deceased.

The list of insolvent property and capitation taxes and delinquent taxes for year 1895, returned by the treasurer and his deputy, were examined and certified to the court.
