ACCOMAC COUNTY COURT.

County court proceedings, April Term, 1886:

Isaiah T. Johnson of Leemont, applied to treasurer for certificate to obtain liquor license and tendered coupons in part payment, which were filed with court for identification and verification, in accordance with Act of Assembly, known as Coupon Killer No. 1. Afterwards Mr. Johnson withdrew his application and on request coupons were surrendered by court.

L. W. Childrey tried for assault and battery on A. Frank Byrd, was found guilty and fined $13.50 and costs of prosecution.

Henry Williams was tried for assault and battery on Cordelia Williams. Jury failed to agree.

Margaret Thorns was convicted of selling liquor unlawfully, and fined by jury $100; the court supplementing the verdict by 8 months imprisonment in jail. His Honor in fixing term of imprisonment expressed regrets that a woman should be guilty of such an offense. He very plainly indicated in his remarks that offenders of this kind need expect no favors at his hands.

Circuit court notes. --

Thos. G. Elliott, personal representative of G. S. G. Mears, has brought suit for benefit of widow and children of said Mears against estate of John R. Sturgis. damages laid at $10,000.

Thos. G. Pitts, personal representative of N. J. Kellam has sued N.Y., P. & N. Railroad for benefit of widow and children of said Kellam, run over and killed some months ago by railroad. Damages laid at $10,000.

John W. Savage has sued John H. Fisher's estate for $750 damages for cutting and stabbing said Savage.
