ACCOMAC COUNTY COURT.

Proceedings, March Term, 1897.

Rev. Geo. W. Jones, of the M. E. Church, South was granted authority to celebrate the rites of matrimony.

Erick Anderson, a native of Russia, declared his intention of becoming a citizen of the United States.

Accounts against Commonwealth in criminal cases were allowed as follows: John D. Watts, J.P., $3; W. M. Taylor, J.P., $8.50; T. B. Gillespie, J.P., $1; Jas. B. Taylor, constable, $11.30; jailer, $70.75.

Jos. C. Wescott qualified as administrator of Claude H. Guy, deceased; Jas. C. Doughty as administrator of Basil Hill, deceased; and James H. Fletcher Jr. as administrator of James A. Swift, deceased.

The last wills of Isaac T. Russell and Spencer Drummond were proved and ordered to be recorded.

The last will of Perry A. Leatherbury, deceased, was proved and E. J. Winder qualified as executor thereof.

The last will of Peter A. East, deceased, was proved and Richard T. Ames qualified as executor thereof.

Upon petition of Levin R. Lewis and others for a public road. The report of the viewers was returned and order was entered to summon proprietors and tenants to show cause against.

Upon petition of Wm. M. Needles and others for a public road from Greenbackville to Franklin City. Petition filed and order entered appointing S. T. Johnson, R. R. Stant, John F. Nelson Jr., E. H. Conquest Jr., and John D. Parsons, viewers.

Sue Kent, a prisoner in jail, having served out her term, and being unable to pay costs, was discharged.

Following fiduciary accounts confirmed and ordered to be recorded: Audits of estates of Robert Custis, colored, Elsie N. Lewis, John J. Gunter, Christopher C. Mears and Elizabeth Hinman; trust accounts of Henry K. Fosque and wife, George Downing, W. R. Tumey and Elizabeth N. Floyd; orphan accounts of Carroll A. Rogers, Maggie S., and Annie W. Turner, Henry Olive Rue, Virginia C., and Annie F. Pitts, Bessie and Eade M. Downing, Mary M., Oaknall J., Fannie S., and Bessie M. Humphreys, Manie E. Bull nee Rogers, Isabella, Daniel, Elizabeth and Elizabeth M. Jones.

Upon petition of Sydney M. Hancock and others for a public road. Petition filed and order entered appointing John W. Turlington, Albert J. Rue, Albert Gillespie, George Y. Bloxom and D. Frank White, viewers.

At the request of the Board of Supervisors the court examined the question of which fund was liable for the payment of the expenses of establishing a public road or landing or altering the public road -- the county levy or the road tax laid by the Board in the magisterial district where the road or landing may be established or road altered -- after examining the subject entered of record that in its opinion the county levy is the fund liable for the payment of said expenses.
