Proceedings, June Term, 1899.

Last will of Edward Baker proved and James R. Hickman qualified as executor.

Edward P. Byrd qualified as administrator of John T. Byrd, deceased.

Erastus W. Whealton qualified as guardian of his infant children, Bettie J., Lovester, Arbry C. and Anna Whealton.

James J. Fletcher Jr. qualified as guardian of Clarence Elton Birch, orphan of Wm. P. Birch, deceased.

John R. Guy qualified as guardian of Selby G. Guy, orphan of Selby C. Guy Sr., deceased.

The clerk made report according to law of the fines received by Justices of the Peace and reported to him in May 1899.

Ex parte: Petition of Joseph E. Broadwater and others for a drain. Report by commissioners, John D. Parsons and N. W. Nock, returned and filed.

Accounts against the Commonwealth in criminal and lunacy cases allowed as follows: To Luther N. Boggs, J.P., $2.00; Thos. B. Gillespie, J.P., $2.00 and $1.00; A. S. Taylor, J.P., 50 cents; John A. Mears, J.P., 50 cents and $2.00; costs of inquest over two deceased strangers, held by John A. Mears and Geo. E. Winder, respectively, Justices of the Peace and acting coroners, Geo. E. Winder, J.P., $2.00; M. Oldham Jr., clerk $13.75; and John H. Wise, sheriff, $22.35.

Authority to celebrate the rites of matrimony was granted to Rev. Henry W. D. Johnson and Rev. Ernest S. Fooks, of the Methodist Protestant Church, and to Rev. Charles Earle, of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

The following county officers elected on the fourth Thursday in May last, appeared before the court and qualified, for term beginning July 1st, 1899; Montcalm Oldham Jr., clerk of county court; John D. Grant, clerk of circuit court: John H. Hopkins, county treasurer; L. Jas. Gunter, sheriff; Benjamin T. Gunter, Attorney for the Commonwealth; Thos. C. Kelly, Commissioner of District No. 1; Wm. D. Tunnell, Commissioner of District No. 2.

The following qualified as district officers: Island District -- Isaac Henry Savage, supervisor; Geo. W. Conner, constable; J. E. Dave Winder, overseer of the poor; Emory Maffitt and William H. Warren, justices of the peace. Atlantic District -- William L Nock, supervisor; Samuel J. Davis, overseer of the poor; Lloyd F. J. Wilson and Edward W. Hutchinson, justices of the peace. Metompkin District -- John W. Wessells, supervisor; Geo. D. Barnes, constable; Samuel C. Taylor, overseer of the poor; Thos. G. Clayton, Custis W. Bloxom, and Edward Wright Jr., justices of the peace. Lee District -- Alfred J. Lilliston, supervisor; Alexander W. Lilliston, overseer of the poor; Levi R. Boggs and George F. Parker, justices of the peace. Pungoteague District -- Joseph C. Wescott, constable; Julius W. Ward, overseer of the poor; John A. Mears and Henry C. Walker, justices of the peace.

Fred E. Ruediger was appointed and qualified as county surveyor for term of four years, commencing July 1st, 1899.

Retail liquor licenses were granted to Wilmer F. Bell, at Wachapreague, John H. Auld, at Bobtown, and Geo. E. Winder, at Pungoteague.

The oaths of office taken and subscribed by the Mayor and Councilmen of the town of Onancock were returned to the court and recorded.

Authority entered for John D. Johnson to transfer his liquor license from original place to his home at Parksley, about 60 feet distant on Bennett street.

The following fiduciary accounts were confirmed and ordered to be recorded to wit: Audits of estates of James Parks of B., Mary S. Wright and Meshack Mears; orphan accounts of Isabella, Harriet W. and Mary E. Wilkins, Annie F. and Virginia C. Pitts; Elizabeth M. Floyd's trust account and Joseph E. Broadwater's account as acting committee of his son, David Wharton Broadwater.

Upon petition of Thos. R. Mears and others for a public road, near Chesconnessex. Report of viewers filed and order to summon proprietor, John W. H. Parker, to show cause against the road.

The Commonwealth vs. Henry Nock, colored, (on indictment for grand larceny). Defendant tried, convicted and sentenced to three years in the penitentiary.

Upon petition of Fletcher Drummond and others to alter public road and build public bridge, near Parksley. Altering the road and building the bridge approved by the Court and certified to the Board of Supervisors.

Upon petition of O. H. Taylor and others for a public road near Jenkins Bridge. Road directed to be opened by road machine manager of Atlantic District.

Ann Bell Scarburgh's guardian vs. Ann Bell Scarburgh (on petition). Petition filed and referred to commissioner of accounts.

Ex parte: Petition of Joseph E. Broadwater's executor, in matter of estate of David Wharton Broadwater. Petition filed and order for payment of expenses of David Wharton Brodwater &c.

Ex parte: Petition of Jno. R. Townsend's admr. Order for withdrawal of certain money in Marine Bank of Norfolk, payment of costs and taxes out of same and distribution of balance amongst widow, Rosalie Townsend, and certain creditors of said Jno. R.

Upon petition of Board of Directors of Eastern Shore Agricultural Association and others for a public road at their Fair Grounds. Part of road approved at county's cost and referred to Board of Supervisors and another part (residue applied for) approved at cost of Association.
