ACCOMAC COUNTY COURT.

Proceedings, February Term, 1891.

The following fiduciary accounts were confirmed and ordered recorded: Orphan accounts of Adelbert Warren, Ella D., Wm. Bagwell, Harry Thompson and Mary Etta Mears; Mary Coleburn, Margaret and Sallie Saulsbury; James B., Mary A., Jennie M. and John F. Lingo; Elijah W. Sturgis, Frederic L. Reynolds; Emerson, Georgie and Essie Wescott; Claudius and Marietta McLain; Harry A. and Grace E. Hopkins; audits of estates of Wm. J. Taylor, Joseph T. Spence and Susan R. Clayton.

Last will of Hennie Budd was proved and Wm. T. Watson qualified as administrator c.t.a.

Wm. Duncan was appointed surveyor of roads in place of Harvey F. Farlow and Teackle L. Byrd in place of Edward T. Groten.

The following fines were paid into court: By Wm. T. Parks, J.P., $5 received of Teackle Chase for assault by his son on a certain James White; by Joseph L. Cooper, J.P., $2.50 received of John Crockett; $2.50 of Stephen Crockett, and $1 each of Wm. Harrison Crockett, Stephen Corbitt, Elijah Parks, Solomon Shores, George Savage and John McMahon for disorderly conduct; by Emory Moffett, J.P., $2 received of George Booth and Andrew Beebe for disturbing public peace; by L. F. J. Wilson, J.P., $4 received of Daniel Hutchens, and a like sum of C. C. Jones for breach of peace.

Wm. H. McMath was exempted from capitation tax, because physically too infirm to perform labor.

Authority to celebrate rites of matrimony was Granted to Rev. James M. Hope, of Baptist Church.

Patrick W. Kilmon qualified as guardian of Leroy J., Clarence Snow, L. Woodson, Mary, Walter D., Pearl K., Alice H. and Branton B. Killmon, orphans of John H. Killmon, dec'd.

J. Floyd Nock qualified as guardian of Sherwood W., Asa T., Minnie S. and Jewell Dix, orphans of Asa T. Dix, deceased.

Benjamin F. Crockett qualified as administrator of Upshur K. Broughton, deceased.

Orders on county treasurer in road and bridge matters were entered as follows: For Mathews & Taylor, $27.50; George R. Bunting, $8.12; Harry W. Custis, $160; James T. Hurst $12; and Edward T. Lang, $14.24.

Scire facias awarded against Mitchell Evans and his sureties on the recognizance taken by Thomas W. Blackstone, J.P., on the 9th day of January, last.

George W. Powell's administrator vs. Henry Watson, colored, (on attachment). Dismissed on motion of plaintiff.

Commonwealth vs. Henry Lescallette (on indictment for engaging in business of daguerreotype artist without license). Defendant tried, convicted and fined $50 and costs of prosecution.

Commonwealth vs. Pompey Sample (on indictment for carrying pistol concealed). Defendant tried, convicted and fined $30 and costs of prosecution.

The following accounts for criminal expenses were allowed, payable out of State treasury: George P. S. Hope, special constable, $5.68; Rebecca Joynes, $20.50; L. F. J. Wilson, J.P., $3; George T. Gladding, $36.57; James H. Fletcher, Jr., attorney for Commonwealth, $75; L. J. Gunter, constable, $22.45; John H. Wise, sheriff, $82.90.

Wm. Young vs. George W. Perkins (on distress warrant). Report of constable filed, confirmed and cause removed from docket.

Commonwealth vs. Thomas Thornes (on indictment for assault and battery). Defendant tried, proved not guilty and acquitted.

Commonwealth vs Charles L. Byrd and George W. Core (on indictment for refusing to receive a vote as judges of election at Newstown precinct). Defendants tried, found not guilty and acquitted.

Rules were awarded against George B. Stebbins and Gabriel Shores for failing to attend as witnesses on third day of last term.

Rule was awarded against Harry T. White for failing to attend as a venireman for the trial of Sam Lewis, on seventh day of last term.

A writing purporting to be the last will of Sallie Chandler, deceased, was offered to the court for probate, and the same being contested by two of the legatees and devisees, the case was continued till fifth day of next term.

Commonwealth vs. Henry T. Mason of M. (on indictment for assault and battery). Defendant tried and found not guilty and acquitted.

Charles P. Finney, Inspector of oysters for 8th district, reported collections for three months ending February 28th, 1891, aggregating $158.70 as follows: amount received from tongmen $5, from dredgers $146.20, from planting grounds $7.50, due State $142.83 and as Inspector of 9th district for same period, $250, from dredgers, due State $225.

Samuel J. Davis, Inspector of oysters for 1st and second districts reported nothing collected for three months ending November 30th, 1890 and as Inspector of 1st district for three months ending February 28th 1891, $7.12 from planting grounds, $1 from fines, due State $7.31 and as Inspector for 2nd district for last named period from planting grounds $12.13, from fees $2, due State $12.72.

Report of commissioners assigning dower to Sarah Elizabeth Grant, colored, widow of Wm. H. Grant, was duly filed and confirmed.

Order entered in favor of Jeremiah J. Savage, directing commissioner of revenue of district No. 1, to grant him a license to distribute and sell religious books with a nominal tax of 1 cent for one year from May 1st, 1891.
