ACCOMAC COUNTY COURT.

Proceedings, March Term, 1886

Hon. Benjamin T. Gunter qualified as judge of the 8th Judicial circuit.

Report of commissioner, as to solvency of official bond of treasurer of Accomac was made and ordered to be recorded.

Geo. H. Bagwell, resigned as surveyor of county of Accomac and Wm. Frederick Gunter qualified as his successor.

Thomas A. Northam and Francis West qualified respectively, as a Notary Public.

Accounts presented by overseers of roads were examined and allowed.

Certificate was granted Otho F. Mears to obtain license to practice law in the courts of the Commonwealth.

Application filed by Chas. H. Mason for aid under Act of Assembly to maimed Confederate soldiers, was examined and order entered in favor of applicant, directing evidence, &c to be certified to Auditor of Public Accounts.

The inspectors of oysters presented reports of all fees, fines and taxes collected by them for quarter ending February 28th, 1886, and the accounts due by them ordered to be certified to Auditor of Public Accounts, are as follows: Samuel J. Davis, inspector of 1st district, $276.50 -- for Islands, $2.03; A. G. Ashby, inspector of 4th district, $26.49; Wm. J. Barnes, inspector of 5th district, $748.12; James T. Weaver, inspector of 6th district, $92.01; John C. Justice, inspector of 7th district, $261.68; Charles P. Finney, inspector of 8th district, $71.93.

Accounts against Commonwealth in criminal matters were allowed as follows: A. S. Taylor, J. P., $9; George T. Gladding, constable, $75.29; John W. Joynes, special constable,
$18.92; T. W. Blackstone, J.P., $9; John H. Walker, Wm. H. Walker, James H. Hutchinson, each , $1.83; Joseph W. Mears, J.P., $4; Wesley T. Melson, $2.20; Duffield Savage, $48; Dr. Geo. T. Scarburgh, two accounts, $5.25 and $4.75.

Susan Rogers gave bond as guardian of Mary Louis Battaile and others.

Orders entered for clerk and receiver to pay railroad damages to Wm. S. Matthews and wife -- and to John T. White and others.

Surveyors of public roads were appointed as follows: Augustus W. Johnson vice James E. F. Ayres, resigned; Edward T. Downing vice Alfred J. Mears, removed from district: John R. Duncan vice Thos. C. Kelly, resigned; Emory D. Hinman vice Wm. J. Lewis, removed from county.

Orders to buy material and repair public bridges, were allowed to following surveyors of public roads: Edward T. Groten, A. J. Taylor, Daniel B. Marshall, Geo. T. Clayton, Wm. J. Lewis, James F. Mason, John Sommers, John T. Johnson and Levin Crowson.

Upon petition of Ambrose S. Taylor and others for Public road. Report of viewers filed and order discharging rule.

Upon application of James D. Mason, surveyor. Order entered directing surveyor to straighten public road near Parksley.

Wm. J. Gibb, &c., vs. Joseph Taylor, (on an attachment). Judgment for plaintiffs and order for sale.

F. T. Stockley & Co. vs. F. E. Coleburn and another, (on an attachment). Judgment for plaintiff and order for sale.

A bar room license was granted Thos. M. Bayly at Nashville.

Order for payment of processioners was entered.

The reports of processioners of 1st, 5th, 6th, 10th, and 15th districts of Accomac Parish and of 6th district of St. George's Parish were filed and ordered to be recorded.

Tully M. Lewis' guardian vs Tully M. Lewis. Order entered authorizing John W. Gillet, guardian, to make expenditure for ward in fitting up tenant house.

In matter of building bridge over Matchotank creek, Slutkill neck. Petition filed and order appointing viewers.

Order entered transferring Archy Campbell's license, at Locustville to Emory D. Hinman, assignee.

The last will and testament of Sarah R. Heath was fully proved and Geo. F. Parker qualified as her administrator with will annexed.

Joseph E. Brodwater was appointed and qualified as guardian of Mary and Willie Petit.

Upon petition of Fletcher Drummond and others for public road from Leemont to Parksley. Petition filed and order appointing viewers.

Last will and testament of Nathaniel F. Conquest was fully proved.

Joseph C. Wescott was appointed and qualified as committee of the estate, real and personal, of John R. Sturgis.

The estate of John H. Fisher was committed to hands of sheriff, as committee.

Abednego Fisher qualified as guardian to Tully G. and Wm. T. children of John H. Fisher.

The following fiduciary accounts were confirmed and ordered to be recorded: Joshua H. Turner's and Marcellene Hopkins' (nee Lilliston), orphan accounts; accounts of A. T. Johnson, administrator c.t.a. of Catharine Powell, deceased, and of L. Floyd Nock administrator of Nancy Wessells, deceased.

The following persons qualified as administrators: Geo. W. LeCato and Edwin T. Powell of Robins Mapp, deceased; John E. Bradford of John E. Bell, deceased; James A. Hall of Edmund Stant, deceased; Alfred J. Lilliston of Shepherd Downing, deceased.
