ACCOMAC COUNTY COURT

Proceedings,

The inquest over the dead body of Thos. P. Lilliston, dec'd, taken before Geo. T. Scarburgh, J. P. and acting Coroner, was returned to the Court and filed.

A deed of release from John W. Gillett, trustee, and J. T. Finney & Bros. to Joseph S. Waterfield, was ordered to be recorded, except as to Charles P. Finney who is yet to sign it.

A deed of release from Augustus and Theodore G. Maltby to Henry E. Sutton; ordered to be recorded.

A deed from Henry E. Sutton to John W. Gillet, trustee for Wm. E. Dodge.

Wm. R. Parramore qualified as administrator of Thos. P. Lilliston, dec'd.

Account of Henry P. Parker with Geo. C. Tyler, committee; confirmed and ordered to be recorded.

Susan S. Floyd's audit confirmed and ordered to be recorded.

Account of Wm. E. Hopkins, with John W. M. Hopkins, guardian, confirmed and ordered to be recorded.

Account of Jane D. Hopkins, with John W. M. Hopkins, guardian; confirmed and ordered to be recorded.

Account of Kate T. Finney, with Wm. S. Hope, guardian; confirmed and ordered to be recorded.

A special Grand Jury was empannelled, and among others presented the following indictments:

Against Hill Taylor, for selling ardent spirits unlawfully -- a true bill.

Against John Wessells and Jas. Lilliston, for assault and battery -- a true bill.

John D. Grant qualified as administrator of Oswald T. Grant, deceased.

Lydia S. Walter's will probated, and John W. Hyslop qualified executor.

Liquor license of Louis F. Hinman and John C. Barnes, transferred from Hunting Creek to their house at Deep Creek Mill.

Geo.P. Hargis was appointed and qualified as guardian of his children, Benj. F. and Bagwell C. Hargis.

Hillary Wise (colored) was appointed and qualified as guardian of Mary Savage (colored).

Orders on the County Treasurer were entered as follows: Mason Miles & Co., $14.40; E. T. Ames, 40 cents; John H. Wise, sheriff, $22.75; Arthur M. Rogers, $4; and Geo. C. Tyler, committee of Henry P. Parker, $17.19.

Authority was granted Rev. Geo. H. T. Byrd (colored) to celebrate the rites of matrimony.

Rule awarded against Thos. Bundick to show cause why he should not be fined for not appearing as a witness before the Grand Jury; afterwards defendant appeared and rule was discharged.

A bar-room and also a retail liquor license was granted to John S. Gaskins at his house at Holden's Creek.

The Commonwealth vs. Henry T. Davis, (indictment for maiming Geo. T. Byrd;) defendant arraigned and entered plea of "not guilty." Verdict of not guilty, defendant discharged and judgment of acquittal.

Order substituting Geo. E. Davis, as trustee, in deed from Ararat Hutchinson to Wm. H. Rose, trustee for Geo. W. Mears.

Henry T. Davis vs. Henry T. Thornton and Charles Wessells; rules discharged on motion of Davis's attorney.

A deed from John Neely and Wm. R. Parramore, trustee, and Mary E. Russell, to Thomas Baker, acknowledged and ordered to be recorded.

A deed from Edward A. Beloate and wife and others to John T. Powell, acknowledged by Edward A. Beloate and wife, John W. Harris, Gilbert J. Mears and wife, Benj. T. Gunter, trustee, Susan T. Beloate and James F. Hargis, and as to these ordered to be recorded.

An assignment of a judgment by Thomas H. Bayly Browne, to L. Floyd Nock; ordered to be recorded.

Account of Obadiah W. Godwin, constable, for criminal services, against the Commonwealth, was allowed and ordered to be certified to the Auditor of Public Accounts.

Order authorizing Wm. H. Marshall, Surveyor of Road Precinct No. 14, of Atlantic District, to purchase material at a price not exceeding $2 per hundred including delivery at the place where it is to be used, to build certain necessary bridges.

Account of J. W. Adair, and John Neely, Attorney for Commonwealth, respectively, against the Commonwealth of Virginia for costs incurred in criminal prosecutions, were allowed and ordered to be certified to the Auditor of Public Accounts.

The estate of Joshua Whealton, of E., was committed to the Sheriff for administration.

Order substituting John Neely as trustee in deed from Joshua Whealton, of E., to Joseph G. Savage, trustee for Moses J. Payne.

Resignation of Arthur M. Rogers, Surveyor of Road Precinct No. 31, of Lee District, accepted; and Robert H. Miles appointed to fill the vacancy.

Mitchell H. Chandler was appointed Surveyor of Road Precinct No. 14, of Lee District, in place of George Bundick, removed from the precinct.
