CHAP. 96.--An ACT to authorize and empower the council of the town of Cape Charles to compel the property owners, in said town to construct and/or maintain the sidewalks abutting their property.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the council of the town of Cape Charles, in this State, be, and it is hereby, authorized and empowered to compel any property owner, or owners,in said town, to construct and/or maintain such of the sidewalks abutting their property as may be designated and required by said council; and, in the event that such property owners shall fail to construct such sidewalks as may be designated by the said council for them to construct, after reasonable notice, and/or to maintain them after they have been constructed, the said council may construct said sidewalks and/or maintain them, and the cost of construction and/or maintenance shall constitute a charge upon the said property, and the collection thereof may be enforced in the same manner as is now provided for the enforcement of the collection of tax on real estate in said town.

An emergency existing, it is further enacted that this act shall be in force from its passage.
